Rehana, mother-of-three children, had sustained serious burn injuries at her in-laws’ home in Ahamsharief village on October 06 and subsequently died in a Srinagar hospital on October 07.

She was working as FHPHW in Health department. The relatives and colleagues of Rehana had alleged that she was burnt alive by her in-laws at their home while the latter claimed she committed suicide.

Police had lodged a FIR in the case and later constituted a special investigation team (SIT) headed by Dy.SP Headquarter Bandipora on October 10 after relatives and colleagues of Rehana held protests, demanding justice.

The police official said that her four relatives have been booked under section 498-A (husband or his relative subjecting a woman to cruelty) and 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Ranbir Panel Code.

Those arrested include the husband of the deceased, her mother-in-law and two sisters-in-law.

“They have been booked under section 498-A and 306 RPC. They all are in police custody,” the official said.

He said that further investigation in the case is going on.
