Pulwama, Oct 17:  Massive clashes erupted in south Kashmir’s Pulwama town near police station Pulwama on Wednesday.

According to local reports, a group of youth assembled near Pulwama police station and hurled stones at police station while demanding the body of a militant who was killed in Bandipora gunfight last month.

A top police official in Pulwama said that the militant killed in Bandipora gunfight last month is being claimed as their kin by two families, one from Ganderbal district and other from Kangan village of Pulwama district.

A police official said, “Some unknown person made an announcement through loudspeakers, from a local mosque, asking the shopkeepers to shut their shops, as a mark of protest, in order to demand the body of a local militant killed in Bandipora.”

Witnesses said, as youth pelted stones at police station Pulwama the forces retaliated with tear smoke canisters. “The normal life in Pulwama remained disrupted throughout the day as clashes between youth and government forces continued lasted till evening hours,” they added.
