CS flags off special cleanliness drive launched by Directorate of Technical Education

SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 17: Terming Srinagar as one of the most beautiful cities, Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam today said that cleanliness plays key role towards developing an optimisticand productive attitude among the people.

The Chief Secretary said this while flagging off 7-Day chain of cleanliness drive with the theme “From-Me-To-You” from Peerzo along the banks of River Jhelum here this morning. The cleanliness drive is being organized by the Directorate of Technical Education, J&K.

Around 300 students from different Polytechnics and ITIs from the Valley are participating in the drive.

Appreciating the drive launched by the Technical Education Department, Chief Secretary urged the local residents, volunteers and students to participate in the cleanliness drives and carry out awareness campaign across the state, besides taking initiatives to restore the pristine glory Kashmir’s scenic sites to attract tourists.

Subrahmanyam urged students and volunteers for continuing this chain of cleanliness drive with same enthusiasm and energy, besides motivating other people around to be part of the process so that the drive triggers a chain reaction.

Speaking on the occasion, Divisional CommissionerKashmir, Baseer Khan said the process of cleanliness should be continuous and the youth should take an active part in such campaigns. “They should also create awareness about the cleanliness,” he said.

He urged the students, staff and employees to come out and join in large numbers along with their family and friends and contribute in the noble cause.

He emphasized that cleanliness is most important for physical well-being and a healthy environment and it is essential for everyone to learn about cleanliness, hygiene, sanitation and various diseases that are caused due to poor hygienic conditions.

Khan said the drive will continue for a week and after that other departments will be involved in the process to continue the cleanliness drive across the state.

The participants took an oath from volunteers and students that they would spend some time every day to clean the city, besides motivating others to become part of this cause.

Later, the Chief Secretary visited an exhibition organized by the Technical Education Department and District Industrial Training Institutes to display various innovations, handicrafts, products and artworks created by the students of these ITIs.

IGP Kashmir S P Pani, Secretary Technical Education, A K Sahu, Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Director Technical Education, Anoo Malhotra, Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Peerzada Hafizullah, Director Rural Sanitation,InduKanwalChib and other concerned officials were present on the occasion.
