DDC Shopian takes snow-clearance preparedness on Mughal road

SHOPIAN, OCTOBER 13: District Development Commissioner, Shopian, Owais Ahmad today visited Mughal Road and took stock of the road conditions, snow clearance and availability of food and shelter for the stranded passengers and vehicles.

In the wake of an early snowfall this year, DDC took an emergency visit to the road connecting Shopian in South Kashmir with district Poonch of Jammu division. Due to the snowfall, the traffic movement was stopped and many vehicles were stuck for a brief period.

Immediately after getting the information about Mughal Road being closed, Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Owais Ahmad, made a visit to inspect the conditions of this road and the traffic was made through. During his visit, the people requested the district administration to augment the existing structures for the travellers who get stranded on this route especially at a time when Mughal Road has more rush of traffic due to the closure of the National highway. On hearing these problems the Deputy Commissioner Shopian asked the Mughal road authority and wildlife department to open their guest houses for general public while new shelter sheds are being developed on this road. He also directed the concerned authorities to ensure supply of essentials at various spots on this route. He appealed people to avoid journey on Mughal Road in late hours and also contact the control room established by his office at Mini Secretariat, Shopian, prior to journey.

People appreciated the quick response of administration. During this visit DC Shopian was accompanied by ADDC Shopian, ACR, Executive Engineer Mughal Road Shopian and officials of the Mughal road department Shopian.
