I don’t know what Governor has said: Mattu

Srinagar, October 10: Clearing air on the Governor’s “foreign mayor” assertions, former NC State Spokesman, Junaid Azim Mattu today said he is not a foreigner nor do have any information about the issue.

“Well I am not any foreigner and honestly speaking I don’t know what Governor has said in his interview. Since I was busy with elections, it’s not appropriate to comment on the issue. You can ask this question to Governor,” said Mattu during his maiden interaction with reporters after resigning from National Conference (NC).

He said the leaders are elected under a proper mechanism and that speculating anything beforehand is “illogical”.

Governor Satyapal Malik’s statement that Srinagar city will get a Mayor who is a foreign educated has triggered a debate with NC and Congress taking strong exception to it.

Pertinently Mattu resigned from NC following the party’s decision to boycott ULB and Panchayat Polls last month and decided to contest Municpal polls from Srinagar as independent candidate.

Matoo said people who cast their votes should not be labeled as traitors as they are the same who make people to win in other elections as well.

“My message is to glorify voters and not to vilify them. Do not portray them as criminals as they are the same voters who use their franchise in other elections as well,” Mattoo added.

He said that local body elections are compulsory for the development “I hope that winning candidates would serve people whose precious votes make them to win elections with honesty.”

Meanwhile, amid boycott by NC and PDP and militant threats to contesting candidates and voters, Mattu is being seen a natural choice for Mayoral post if he and his supporters win the polls.
