Budgam, Oct 05: Yet again, patients at Aga Syed Yousuf Memorial District hospital are suffering due to apathy of hospital administration as the Biochemistry Analyzer — an instrument used to conduct vital tests – is lying defunct from last six days here.

The instrument, hospital sources said, developed a technical snag before six days, however, concerned authorities have done nothing to provide an alternative or get the medical equipment repaired.

The tests which could not be conducted due to dysfunctional instrument include Kidney Function Test,Liver Function Test, Uric Acid, Lipid Profile, Blood Sugar, Antistreptolysin O and C-Reactive Protein.

Sources said, “Biochemistry Analyzer acts as a ‘backbone’ of hospital but after its malfunctioning, no vital test is being conducted here.”

They informed Kashmir Images that around 50 patients who are supposed to undergo tests, are shown door on a daily basis.

“In the past six days, around 300 patients were either forced to visit private clinics or referred to Srinagar hospitals, only to get the tests done.”

They said that poor patients are the worst sufferers who cannot afford to pay hefty amounts at private clinics.

During night hours, patients have no alternative but to visit Srinagar hospitals as private clinics in Budgam shut early.

Meanwhile, locals and hospital employees unanimously blamed concerned Medical Superintendent saying “she has ruined the healthcare system” here.

They added that few months back, Biochemistry Analyzer had developed the same problem and patients were left at God’s mercy for many days.

When contacted Medical Superintendent, Dr Deeba, said that measures are being taken to make the equipment functional. “I have called the engineer here, but I don’t know whether he has repaired the Analyzer or not.”

It is pertinent to mention that Kashmir Images earlier published several stories about the grave problems being faced by the patients at Budgam hospital, and most of the issues are yet to be redressed.
