Baramulla, Feb 22: Three residential houses were damaged today when Indian and Pakistani troops traded heavy firing and shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of north Kashmir.

Three residential houses were damaged — one completely and two sustained partial damages — in Tillawari frontier village of Uri after Indo-Pak troops exchanged gun-fire and mortars in Haji Peer and Churanda areas of Uri for second time in a week on Thursday.

They said residential house of Lasa Najar, son of Subhan Najar, a resident of Tillawari Uri was completely damaged and other two houses of Muneer Ahmed and Zewera Begum suffered partial damages.

Sources said that Pakistani troops fired shells at several locations in Hajipeer and Churanda since early morning which stopped at around 11:30 am. Such was the intensity of shelling that mortar shells landed in Tillawari, Thajal and Churanda villages and adjacent forest area.

“It is all smoke and explosions of motor shells which we can hear and see. Panic has gripped the border villages here,” Sarpanch of Churanda, Lal Din told ‘Kashmir Images’ over phone. However, there were no reports of causality.

People from several areas of Uri, include Thajal, Tillawari, Churanda are fleeing their homes and authorities have asked the Health department to be on alert.

“We have kept scores of vehicles including ambulances ready to evacuate people from the affected areas in case need arises,” health authorities said.
