SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 15: Food Safety and Standards officers headed by Assistant Commissioner Srinagar today conducted an inspection of messes and canteens inside the JVC SKIMS hospital Bemina here.
During the inspection, the checking team found the presence of unrestricted entry of houseflies to messes and canteens and synthetic food colour as well.
Samples of cooked food were lifted for quality tests and show cause notices were issued to the in-charges of messes and canteens for failing to produce valid licenses on the occasion.
The Assistant Commissioner said complaints against the in-charges for violating the sanitary and hygiene requirements will be submitted before the competent court.
The inspection team also took up the issue of unlicensed operation of canteens with the Principal JVC SKIMS who assured of looking into the matter.
Later, the inspection team also visited and inspected the Batamaloo and surrounding areas during which open spices weighing more than 1.70 quintals were destroyed on the spot. Street vendors were strictly instructed to maintain hygienic conditions lest they would be penalized under relevant provisions of the FSS Act.
