DC Budgam launches ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ fortnight

BUDGAM, SEPTEMBER 15: Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Dr. Syed Sehrish Asgar, today launched the fortnight ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ cleanliness and sanitation programme at Boys Higher Secondary School Budgam.

On the occasion, DC stressed on maintaining cleanliness not only in houses but at public places for the clean and hygienic environment.

The fortnight campaign, organized by Union Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation through Rural Development Department, would focus on cleanliness programmes, awareness generation regarding Swachhta to highlight the need for cleanliness in collaboration with higher education/school education departments and SHGs of UMEED.

The DC said that “we all must save our water bodies from getting polluted as our moral obligation not only to be safe from the water-borne diseases but also save them for the future generations.

The DC also asserted on proper disposal of both bio-degradable and non-biodegradable waste (plastic and polythene) and said separate dustbins should be used for the same.

Terming, public cooperation as a must for the success of the cleanliness mission, she urged students and SHGs to be part of the drive and take it to every household in their respective vicinities.

She said that major focus shall be given on cleaning of water bodies, parks, roads, schools, hospitals and colleges during the campaign.

The DC also directed all BDOs to identify landfill sites for the garbage disposal in all villages of the district for effective cleanliness and hygiene.

On the occasion, cleanliness kits which include dustbins and brooms were distributed among the members of SHGs.

The said campaign shall be conducted at district, block and panchayat levels simultaneously and shall culminate on October-2, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.

The DDC instructed all officers that the focus should be given on mobilizing the local people through community participation in the cleanliness drives, besides generating mass awareness through the media.

Later, the DC headed cleanliness drive in which scores of SHGs and students participated and cleaned the premises of BHSS Budgam and its adjoining roads.

Among others, the drive was attended by ACD Budgam, DPO, BDO Budgam and Principal BHSS Budgam.
