Srinagar, Sep 07: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti Friday appointed senior party leaders Haseeb Drabu and Altaf Bukhari to party’s political affairs committee, a party spokesperson said.

He said Mufti nominated MLA Mushtaq Ahmad Shah as zone president for the party’s Tral zone.

“She has also assigned work to party’s three general secretaries for Jammu province,” he said.

F C Bhagat, Surinder Choudhry and Mehboob Iqbal shall look after the party affairs in central Jammu, Pir Panchal areas and Chenab valley areas respectively, he added.

“Mufti has nominated Haseeb Drabu and Altaf Bukhri as members of the political affairs committee of J&K PDP,” the spokesman said.

The former chief minister’s move is seen as an attempt to mollify the disgruntled elements within her party.

Seven PDP legislators had raised a banner of revolt against her leadership soon after the PDP-BJP government fell in June and accused the party president of nepotism.

While Drabu did not rebel openly against the party leadership, he was reportedly miffed after being dropped from the council of ministers in March this year for his remarks that Kashmir was not a political issue.
