Srinagar: In a late night move, the state government removed J&K Director General of Police (DGP), Dr S P Vaid and directed Dilbagh Singh to hold the post of DG in addition to his charges ‘till a regular arrangement is made.’
In an order issued by the Home Department of J&K Govt vide number 1205 – Home of 2018 Dated 06-09-2018, R K GOYAL, Principal Secretary to Government, Home Department said that Dr S P Vaid, DGP, J&K is transferred and his services are placed at the disposal of General Administration Department for further posting as Transport Commissioner, J&K.
However, in a separate order, GAD confirmed Dr Vaid’s posting as Transport Commissioner and said that Saugat Biswas, presently holding the post, has been transferred and posted as Special Secretary to the Government, Information Technology Department.
He shall continue to hold the charge of Secretary to the Government, Information Technology Department in addition to his own duties, the GAD order number 1352-GAD of 2018 read.
Dilbagh Singh, DGP Prisons shall hold the charge of DGP J&K in addition to his own duties till a regular arrangement is made, the order reads.
Though there were reports earlier that union ministry of home affairs was not happy with the handling of the situation in J&K, particularly in Kashmir Valley’s southern region, there were some in the ministry who backed Dr Vaid.
However, the recent abductions in south Kashmir seemed to be the deciding factor as, as per sources, the Raj Bhawan had to intervene to defuse the situation as it was upset about the handling of the situation by the police chief.
Whatever the reasons, fact of the matter is that Dr Vaid is out and who replaces him, may be known in coming days.
However, rumours are ripe that SM Sahai, a senior police officer on deputation to the central government, is likely to take over as DGP, J&K.
