Srinagar, Sep 01: Government has asked the Crime Branch of police to investigate the killing of a minor boy Umar Farooq, who was killed under mysterious conditions in Kupwara month-and-half back.

Reports said that after locals demand that there should be an impartial probe in the killing of the minor of Gulgam Kupwara, the case has been handed over to Crime Bbranch.

Umar Farooq (10), son of Farooq Ahmad Malik went missing on 17 July this year from his native village Gulgam. Locals found his burnt body in a Nallah in Gushi village after four days on 21 July.

A local news agency quoted a Crime Branch official as saying that the case file of killing of Umer Farooq is now being probed by it. “The case is under investigation and a special investigation team has been constituted top crack it,” the official said.

Earlier a SIT was also formed by SSP Kupwara Shriram Ambarkar Dinkar headed by ASP Kupwara Shafqat Hussain to probe the incident.

In this connection, a case FIR No. 192/2018 under section 302, 363 RPC has been registered in police station Kupwara.

However, sources said the police could not trace the culprits even after 40 days of the tragic incident forcing government authorities to handover the case to Crime Branch.
