Secy Social Welfare launches National Nutrition Week, MVP

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 01: Secretary Social Welfare, Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone today said that proper nutrition is vital at every stage of life, especially for children to stimulate their mental and physical growth.

The Secretary Social Welfare was speaking at the launching event of National Nutrition Month and Matru Vandana Saptha programmes being organized by the Social Welfare department with the aim of creating mass awareness about the requirement of proper nutrition for better child health.

Dr Lone said that the department is observing the National Nutrition programme under “POSHAN Abhiyaan” (National Nutrition Mission) and Matru Vandana Saptha under “Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojna” (PMMVY) with the purpose of creating awareness about the importance of nutrition for health which has an overall impact on development, productivity, economic growth.

He said that the theme of celebration of Matru Vandana Saptah is to ensure proper nutrition for pregnant women, regular ante-natal check-ups, institutional delivery and immunization for infants.

Dr Lone said that both the programmes are important for national development and no society can develop unless they do not have healthy children.

He said that these programmes should be implemented in mission mode so that real benefits of these programmes reach to real beneficiaries.

While welcoming the participants, the secretary Social Welfare said that the month-long programme is being celebrated as National Nutrition programme across the country for the awareness of the women about their health and nutritional requirements in the different phases of life and motivated them to take this message forward in their respective fields.

The programme was also attended by State Mission Director ICDS, Vir Ji Hangloo, Special Secretary Social Welfare, doctors, academicians and people from other walks of life.
