Srinagar:  One Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay, believed to be a right wing activist has filed a petition before the Supreme court challenging Art 35 of the constitution of India which is likely to be annexed as it pertains to the same subject.

“The main petition is likely to be taken up for hearing on August 31, “a senior law department official said. “But the exact date will only be known on Wednesday,” he said.

There was an instant reaction from the Business establishments, in certain parts of Kashmir, to the reports of the fresh petition as shops and other establishments were closed immediately as the news appeared on social media.

Reports reaching here said that intense clashes erupted in Lal Chowk area of Anantnag town in South Kashmir on monday as hundreds of youth hit the streets over ‘attempts to scrap Article 35 A’ defining permanent resident of the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to locals protesting youth were demanding the special status of Kashmir  be safeguarded.

“Some youth started throwing stones on forces deployed in the area leading to clashes,” they said.

The Police in retaliation fired tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters, eyewitness said.

Massive clashes were going on when this report was filed.

The Law department official however maintained that the main petition was not being taken up for hearing today.
