Annual Urs of Baba Shukr-U-Din Simnani observed in Kujar Ganderbal

Ganderbal Aug 21: The annual Urs of Sufi Saint, Hazrat Syed Baba Shukr-u Din (RA) was observed with religious fervor in Kujar, Monday, as thousands of devotees from different parts of the state thronged the shrine to participate to pay homage to the saint.

One of the most revered saint in Kashmir, also one among 700 Sadats who had accompanied Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamdani (RA) to Kashmir and later settled here for spreading the message of Islam, Baba Hhuke-u-Din is believed to have travelled far and wide in the valley, relieving people of evils and myths. He became instrumental in guiding thousands to the stages of spiritual domain and had huge number of followers.

“We are blessed to have the shrine of this great Sufi Saint here in the village. In his memory we have also built a School which has currently attending to thousands of students,” a local devotee said.

“The Urs in Kujjar village symbolizes our  tradition, social values and religious devotion. Every year we gather here and pray for well being of Kashmir and rest of humankind,” Advocate  lone Altaf, another devotee said.

On the occasion Abid Razvi, a well known Muslim scholar in Ganderbal highlighted the life and contributions of saint towards Islam. He emphasized upon people to work for the welfare of humanity and follow the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The devotees offered special prayers at the shrine followed by recitations of verses of Holy Quran.
