Farooq Lone inaugurates awareness camp for women in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 11: Secretary Social Welfare, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone today inaugurated a mega awareness camp-cum- loan mela here aimed to sensitize the women beneficiaries about various schemes being implemented by State Women’s Development Corporation (WDC).

The camp was sponsored by National Minorities Development & Finance Corporation (NMDFC) and Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India.

About 800 women beneficiaries participated in the camp amongst whom loan application forms, as well as pamphlets, were distributed. A symbolic exhibition of products and live demonstration of training was also part of the programme.

On the occasion, the Secretary appreciated the role of WDC in making the women socially and economically empowered. He further added that an amount of Rs 30 crore guarantee cover is issued in favour of JKWDC for providing financial support to the larger number of women beneficiaries for establishing their own income generating units.

Managing Director WDC Dr. Naheed Soz highlighted various activities and achievements of the Corporation which has immensely contributed towards the empowerment of the women.

The Managing Director also threw light on the issues related to the rights of women, health, nutrition, female feticide, Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Yojana, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and skill development.

The camp was also attended by Child Development Project Officer, Srinagar and representative from J&K EDI who also made participant women beneficiaries aware of the schemes being implemented by these departments.
