Alusteng grid station capacity proposed to be raised from 320 MVA to 475 MVA at a cost of Rs 56.78 crore; amnesty scheme under consideration
SRINAGAR: Minister for Power Development Department (PDD) Ali Mohammad Sagar on Saturday directed officials to minimise unscheduled power cuts and ensure adequate electricity supply during the winter months, as he reviewed the department’s preparedness at the 220/132/33 KV Grid Station in Alusteng.
During the visit, Sagar assessed the functioning and existing capacity of the grid station, power distribution arrangements and measures being taken to maintain reliable electricity supply, particularly in Srinagar and Ganderbal districts.
He directed officers to ensure that consumers receive electricity according to the prescribed curtailment schedule and stressed the need for timely maintenance, effective planning and better coordination among field functionaries to meet increased demand during winter.
The Minister also asked chief engineers and other senior officers to remain in regular coordination with local representatives and residents, assess ground-level requirements and address consumer grievances promptly. He called for special attention to Kangan and adjoining areas to resolve power supply-related issues.
Sagar also said an amnesty scheme for electricity consumers was in the pipeline, adding that the proposal was under consideration.
Officials informed the Minister that the Alusteng Grid Station, with an existing transformation capacity of 320 MVA, caters to several areas of Srinagar and Ganderbal districts, including Alusteng, Shuhama, Nagbal, Gadoora and Tulbagh, through its associated receiving stations.
To strengthen the transmission network and meet growing demand, the station’s capacity is proposed to be increased from 320 MVA to 475 MVA at an estimated cost of Rs 56.78 crore.
The Minister said the proposed augmentation would improve the availability, reliability and quality of electricity supply in adjoining areas of Srinagar and Ganderbal.
Chief engineers of the concerned wings of the PDD and other senior officers were present during the visit.
Later, Sagar met several deputations and individuals who raised public issues and developmental requirements. He assured them that their genuine grievances would be taken up with the concerned departments for timely resolution.
He directed officials to remain responsive to public concerns and complete necessary preparations in advance to ensure adequate and reliable power supply throughout the winter season.
