Police registered FIR No. 68/2026 under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation. Multiple teams were constituted to identify and apprehend those involved, using human intelligence and technical surveillance, police said.

The accused have been identified as Nikita Das, 24, daughter of Ganesh Das, and Deep Baruah, 28, son of Joy Kanta Baruah. Both are residents of Morigaon district in Assam and were allegedly working as domestic helpers at the complainant’s residence, police said.

According to police, the duo allegedly committed the theft before fleeing. The stolen ornaments were subsequently recovered from their possession.

The recovered items include 16 gold rings, five necklaces, four bangles, two brooches, three tie pins, seven pendants and nine pairs or pieces of earrings, police said. The total estimated value of the recovered property is around ₹45 lakh.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
