SRINAGAR: The Agriculture Production and Farmers Welfare Department Kashmir on Thursday launched the Khet Bachao Abhiyan, a campaign that will run across villages in the Valley from October 22 to November 30 to promote sustainable farming practices and improve soil health.
The main launch event was held in Bandipora district, with the Project Coordinator, Mushroom, Kashmir, attending as the chief guest.
The campaign aims to raise awareness among farmers about the balanced use of fertilisers and other agricultural inputs, promote crop diversification through oilseeds and pulses, and encourage the utilisation of fallow fields after paddy harvesting.
It will also focus on crop residue management, water conservation, natural farming and the use of organic and biological agricultural products.
The department plans to conduct awareness programmes, training sessions and field demonstrations to help farmers adopt resource-efficient and climate-resilient practices.
Other focus areas include intercropping, integrated farming systems, farm mechanisation and the use of improved technologies, including regenerative agriculture practices. The campaign will also promote the appropriate use of fertilisers, including green ammonia, and biological products.
