The observance commemorates the death of 10 CRPF personnel killed in an ambush by Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh on October 21, 1959. The day is also dedicated to police personnel who have died in the line of duty.

During the ceremony, Kumar read out the names of 154 police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty during 2026.

The programme also included a ceremonial Salami Shastra at the Quarter Guard. CRPF officers and personnel paid homage to the deceased and reaffirmed their commitment to serving the country.

Inspector General, Srinagar Sector, Pawan Kumar Sharma, Deputy Inspectors General Vivek Bhandral, Praveen Kumar Singh, Harvinder Singh Kales and Swapna G. Meshram, along with other officers and personnel, attended the event.

Similar commemorative ceremonies and roll calls were held at CRPF units and formations across the country.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid tribute to police personnel for their role in safeguarding the country’s borders, sovereignty and internal security during an event at the National Police Memorial in New Delhi.
