KULGAM: Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Shahzad Alam on Wednesday directed officials to conduct an audit of Ziyarat Shareef Chimmer and its associated assets, with findings to be made public to ensure transparency and accountability.
The directions were issued during a meeting convened to review the management of the shrine, a religious and historical site associated with Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani, popularly known as Sheikh-ul-Aalam and Nund Rishi.
The review covered the shrine’s allied institutions and assets, including Darul Uloom Chimmer, Madrasa Hanfia Noor-ul-Aloom and Government High School Chimmer.
Officials informed the meeting that proposals for the upgradation and renovation of Government High School Chimmer and completion of pending works at Madrasa Hanfia Noor-ul-Aloom Middle School had been approved by the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board, while technical sanctions were being processed.
The meeting also discussed upgrading Madrasa Hanfia Noor-ul-Aloom up to Class 10 and establishing an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) offering at least two trades — Electrician and Computer Operator and Programming Assistant (COPA) — to expand educational and vocational opportunities for local youth.
Alam stressed the need for proper maintenance of the shrine, timely completion of development works and improved management of its associated assets. He also directed officials to address the issue of a high-tension power line passing through the school and ensure macadamisation of the road near Darul Uloom Chimmer.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Vikar Ahmad Giri, Chief Planning Officer Malik Suhail, Tehsildar DH Pora, other district and sectoral officers, and members of the local committee attended the meeting.
