SRINAGAR: Srinagar district has achieved 70 per cent coverage of eligible senior citizens under the Ayushman Vay Vandana scheme, Deputy Commissioner Akshay Labroo said on Monday, urging all remaining beneficiaries aged 70 years and above to register for the health coverage.
Labroo made the appeal while presiding over an awareness-cum-registration camp at the Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) in Lal Bazar, organised by the Zonal Medical Officer, Zadibal, as part of the district administration’s efforts to expand enrolment under the scheme.
The scheme provides eligible senior citizens aged 70 and above with health coverage of ₹5 lakh, in addition to any existing coverage, to help reduce the financial burden of medical treatment and improve access to healthcare.
The camp witnessed participation from elderly residents of Lal Bazar, Mandibal, Nowshahra, Botshah Mohalla, Baghwanpora and adjoining areas. Participants were informed about the scheme’s benefits and the registration process.
Labroo distributed Ayushman Vay Vandana cards to eligible beneficiaries from the Medical Zone Zadibal and said the administration would continue its outreach efforts to ensure that all eligible senior citizens could access the scheme.
Earlier, the deputy commissioner inspected various sections of UPHC Lal Bazar and reviewed the healthcare facilities and services available to patients. He also assessed the functioning of the centre and the arrangements in place for delivering healthcare services.
The visit was accompanied by Chief Planning Officer Fayaz Ahmad Dar, IAS probationer Aakash Garg, Chief Medical Officer Dr Tahir Sajad, Tehsildar Eidgah Mohammad Iqbal Zargar, Zonal Medical Officer Zadibal Dr Rubeena Aziz, Zonal Medical Officer Srinagar Gunj Dr Shafqat, Medical Superintendent of Government Gousia Hospital Dr Zahida Gul and other district officials.
