Sallar, Anantnag: Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party General Secretary and former Pahalgam MLA Rafi Ahmad Mir on Sunday accused the government of failing to address public concerns in South Kashmir, citing unresolved issues related to unemployment, healthcare, infrastructure and the region’s tourism-dependent economy.
Addressing a party workers’ meeting at Sallar, Mir said people had expected meaningful political engagement, responsive governance and concrete measures to address longstanding problems, but their expectations had not been fulfilled.
He alleged that South Kashmir continued to face neglect, with the concerns of residents, traders, tourism stakeholders and unemployed youth receiving inadequate attention.
Focusing on Pahalgam, Mir said the region’s tourism-dependent economy had suffered, affecting thousands of families reliant on tourism and allied activities for their livelihoods. He called for measures to protect local economic interests, restore confidence among tourism stakeholders and address the difficulties faced by those dependent on the sector.
Mir said the government should move beyond assurances and take concrete steps to address public concerns, adding that political leadership should be judged by its ability to deliver relief to ordinary citizens.
He also urged Apni Party workers to strengthen grassroots engagement, maintain regular contact with residents and raise their grievances through democratic and constitutional means.
Mir said the party would continue to highlight public concerns and hold the government accountable for its commitments.
