Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Working President and former minister Raman Bhalla on Sunday raised concerns over damaged roads, inadequate drainage and missing internal lanes during a visit to Langer village near Kunjwani and Wards 68 and 55 in Jammu.
Bhalla interacted with residents to assess local civic problems and urged the concerned departments to take measures to repair roads, improve drainage and construct missing lanes and drains.
He said basic civic amenities required greater attention and stressed that development should translate into tangible improvements in people’s daily lives rather than remain confined to announcements.
Bhalla also called on Congress workers to take the party’s campaigns against alleged electoral irregularities and lack of transparency in political funding to villages, wards and neighbourhoods.
Referring to the Congress’s ‘Vote Chori’ campaign under the slogan ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’, he said public outreach was necessary to raise awareness about electoral transparency, voter lists and the right of eligible citizens to vote.
On the party’s ‘Chanda Chori’ campaign, Bhalla called for greater transparency in political funding and a level playing field for political parties. The Congress has raised questions about the Bharatiya Janata Party’s funding and the broader electoral finance framework.
He said Congress workers in Jammu and Kashmir should combine public engagement on democratic accountability with efforts to highlight everyday civic problems and hold authorities accountable for addressing them.
The campaign on electoral transparency is being pursued by the Congress leadership, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.
Among those present during Bhalla’s visit were Puran Chand Kundal, Rakesh Kundal, Kala Chowdhary, Suraj Parkash, Gurmeet, Binny, Mangal and Tanvir.
