Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Agriculture Minister Javid Ahmad Dar on Saturday participated virtually in a review meeting on preparations for the nationwide Khet Bachao Abhiyan, scheduled to run from October 22 to November 30.
The meeting was chaired by Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who reviewed the campaign’s implementation framework and stressed coordinated efforts to reach farmers in every village.
Chouhan called for a robust implementation mechanism to ensure effective outreach and tangible benefits for farmers, emphasising that soil conservation was essential for long-term sustainability and the nutritional security of future generations.
Briefing the meeting on Jammu and Kashmir’s preparedness, Dar said the Union Territory government would extend the necessary support and facilities to farmers and work to strengthen the agricultural sector.
He said Jammu and Kashmir had achieved its targets during the previous Kharif season in line with the Union government’s directions and expressed confidence that coordinated efforts would help improve performance during the ongoing Rabi season.
Dar said Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST), Kashmir and Jammu, along with allied departments, would participate in the campaign to ensure its implementation across the Union Territory.
He stressed the need for coordination among agricultural institutions, field functionaries and departments to sensitise farmers about soil testing, conservation of organic matter, balanced fertiliser application and environmentally responsible crop-residue management.
The minister said greater awareness and the adoption of sustainable farming practices would help maintain soil fertility, improve crop productivity and strengthen the long-term sustainability of agriculture in Jammu and Kashmir.
