Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a case against two mining officials and several private persons over alleged illegal extraction and transportation of minerals, overcharging and manipulation of electronic challans.
The case, FIR No. 09/2026, was registered at ACB Police Station Udhampur against Rajeev Jammu, Assistant Mining Engineer, District Mining Officer Udhampur; Rameshwar Sangra, District Mining Officer Reasi; Swaran Singh Rathore and other private persons, the ACB said in a statement issued on October 15.
The case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended, and other applicable laws.
According to the ACB, an inquiry allegedly found that certain private mining operators, including stone crusher operators, had extracted minor minerals beyond permissible limits and continued mining activities after the expiry of their leases.
The allegations also include charging rates higher than those notified by the government, manipulation or misuse of e-challans and operation of stone crusher units beyond the validity of their required Consent to Operate (CTO).
The bureau has alleged that some public servants facilitated these activities in connivance with private operators. The individual roles of the accused, the extent of alleged illegal extraction and transportation, the amount of overcharging and the resulting loss to the government exchequer are being investigated.
The ACB has also initiated searches at the residential and commercial premises of the accused persons. The searches and investigation are underway.
The bureau said further action would be taken in accordance with the law against those found involved in illegal mining, corruption, misuse of official position or causing losses to the government exchequer.
