ANANTNAG: Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Dr Bilal Mohi-ud-Din Bhat, on Monday reviewed the implementation of the Forest Rights Act (FRA), 2006, and directed officials to expedite the processing of cases involving genuine beneficiaries.

Chairing a meeting of the District Level Committee (DLC) at the DC Office Complex, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed six cases submitted for consideration under the Act. The committee identified deficiencies in some cases and directed the concerned officers to complete the required documentation and formalities at the earliest.

Bhat stressed the need for transparency, fairness and due diligence, directing field officials to thoroughly verify cases before forwarding them to the committee.

He said incomplete or ineligible cases should not be placed before the DLC, while ensuring that no eligible beneficiary is excluded. He also called for better coordination among the departments concerned to ensure that the benefits of the Act reach deserving beneficiaries without unnecessary delays.

The meeting was attended by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Assistant Commissioner Development, Assistant Commissioner Panchayat, Divisional Forest Officers of Lidder and Bijbehara Forest Divisions, and other DLC members and officials.
