SRINAGAR: National Conference leader and Habba Kadal MLA Shameema Firdous on Thursday reviewed a proposed ₹4.93-crore conservation and restoration project for the historic Khanqah-e-Moula shrine in Srinagar.
During her visit to the shrine, associated with Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamdani (RA), Firdous assessed the proposed works aimed at preserving the religious, historical and architectural significance of the centuries-old structure.
According to details shared during the visit, the project includes conservation of historic woodwork, restoration of the traditional roof, repair of Jafri and Panjrakari work, restoration of papier-mâché and stonework, and improvement of Devri flooring. The plan also envisages drainage upgrades, electrical works, lightning protection and fire-safety measures, besides the construction of a dedicated Fire and Emergency Services quarter.
Firdous said the preservation of Khanqah-e-Moula’s historical, spiritual and architectural character was essential and called for all necessary measures to safeguard the heritage site for future generations.
She said successive governments had undertaken initiatives for the preservation of shrines, temples and other heritage sites across Jammu and Kashmir and added that efforts were continuing to restore and protect religious and historical monuments in the Union Territory.
The MLA said the proposed works at Khanqah-e-Moula were intended to preserve the shrine’s spiritual significance and unique architectural heritage.
Officials from the Archaeology Department, Public Works (R&B) Department, representatives of Khuddam-e-Ziyarat Shah-e-Hamadan and local residents were present during the visit.
