SRINAGAR: Light rain lashed parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, with the Meteorological Centre Srinagar forecasting intermittent showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds at several places over the next 10 days.
Weather remained generally cloudy across the Union Territory, while some areas recorded light rainfall during the day. The weather office said higher reaches could also receive light snowfall during periods of precipitation.
According to the latest forecast, weather is expected to remain largely dry on October 7, although a few places may receive brief spells of light rain.
On October 8, generally cloudy conditions are likely, with scattered places expected to receive light rain and light snowfall over higher reaches. Another brief spell of rain is forecast towards the evening of October 9.
The Meteorological Centre said weather conditions are likely to become more unsettled on October 10, with light rain or snowfall over higher elevations, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds at many places, particularly during the morning and forenoon hours.
A relatively dry spell is expected from October 11 to the evening of October 13.
Another round of generally cloudy weather is forecast on October 14 and 15, with light rain, light snowfall over higher reaches, thunderstorms and gusty winds likely at many places across Jammu and Kashmir, the weather office said.
In view of the forecast, the Meteorological Centre advised farmers to ensure safe storage of harvested apples and paddy between October 6 and 10 to prevent damage from rain and strong winds.
The department also urged people to avoid taking shelter near loose structures, electric wires and old trees during periods of gusty winds and thunderstorms.
