8 drug peddlers arrested across Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Police have arrested eight drug peddlers in separate cases in Budgam, Anantnag and Kulgam districts, and recovered substantial quantities of contraband substances from their possession, officials said on Tuesday.

In Budgam, during naka checking at Hyderpora, a police team intercepted a car (JK04J-6805) and apprehended two suspects. On search, 151 grams of heroin was recovered from their possession, a police spokesperson said.

He said the accused persons were identified as Aejaz Ahmad Bhat alias Aej Gayle and Tariq Ahmad Paul.

In another operation, during routine patrolling at West End Colony, Hyderpora, police personnel intercepted an auto-rickshaw (JK01AX-6404). The occupants, identified as Faisal Ahmad Shah alias Afreed Kalia and Ubaid Feroz Zargar, were apprehended.

During the search, approximately four grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from their possession, the spokesperson said.

Police while conducting routine checking near the Airport Drop Gate, apprehended one Shalu E.S., a resident of Kerala, after search of his baggage led to the recovery of 69 grams of cannabis and 212 grams of poppy straw.

Concurrently, in Anantnag, a police team conducting naka checking at Batengoo Crossing near Beacon intercepted Aamir Ahmad Dar. During the search, 140 grams of ganja was recovered from his possession.

A team from Sangam Police Post intercepted Zaffar Ahmad Sheikh and recovered 38.87 grams of charas from his possession.

One Mohammad Ayoub Bhat of Nursingpora, Kulgam was arrested at Chattabal Crossing after 14 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from his possession.

Cases have been registered under relevant provisions of law, the spokesperson said.
