SRINAGAR: National Conference (NC) president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Monday urged party leaders and workers to adhere to organisational discipline and the party constitution, saying these principles form the foundation of the organisation’s strength and success.

Addressing a meeting of the Srinagar District Working Committee at the party headquarters, Nawa-e-Subah Complex, Abdullah said the NC’s constitution, agenda and Naya Kashmir manifesto remained central to the party’s functioning and should be followed by all office-bearers and workers.

The meeting, attended by National Conference legislators from Srinagar district and other party functionaries, reviewed organisational activities, developmental issues, public concerns and measures to strengthen the party at the grassroots level.

According to a party statement, Abdullah asked workers to discharge their responsibilities in accordance with the party constitution and remain closely connected with the public. He said addressing people’s concerns and serving the public should remain the core focus of party activities.

The NC president also emphasised the need to familiarise younger generations with Kashmir’s history and political developments, saying many young people were not fully aware of the region’s past and the challenges faced by its people over the decades.

Referring to the functioning of the current government, Abdullah claimed that the National Conference-led administration was operating under constraints imposed by the Union Territory framework and limited powers. Despite these challenges, he said, the government was making efforts to improve public services and accelerate development.

The meeting was attended by NC General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar, Provincial President Showkat Ahmad Mir, several party legislators from Srinagar district and other senior leaders. It was organised by Srinagar District President Pir Afaq Ahmad.
