New Delhi: Amid protests against SIR and alleged “vote theft”, the BJP on Sunday said that the names of 13 crore voters have not been deleted as claimed by the Congress but flagged in the draft electoral roll under categories such as dead, absent, shifted or duplicate.
A “final action” on this follows claims, objections and appeals, the ruling party said on X from its official handle, while posting a “point-by-point breakdown of the claims and facts behind” the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and accusing the Congress of running a “fear campaign” against SIR.
Rebutting another claim of the opposition, the BJP asserted that Form 6 was not changed and that an additional declaration was attached for voter convenience.
“Thirteen crore names were not deleted. They were flagged in the draft under categories such as dead, absent, shifted or duplicate. Final action follows claims, objections and appeals,” It said.
“Form 6 was not changed. An additional declaration was attached for voter convenience. Electoral rolls remain decentralised, with State Election machinery retaining statutory powers,” it added.
The BJP said that a total of 2.37 crore new young voters have been added since June 2025.
“Election Commission decisions are taken collectively by all three commissioners. The electoral process includes BLO verification, party agents, claims and objections, webcasting and monitored counting,” it added.
The BJP also asserted that AI (Artificial Intelligence) is not used to delete voters. The decisions are taken by Electoral Registration Officers “under due process”.
“The technology has changed, not the framework. The system has gone digital, but all legal powers of the ERO remain intact,” the BJP said in another post on X.
Placing “facts on SIR” in a post on X, BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said more than 2.8 lakh “dead voters” were removed during SIR.
“More than 6 lakh Opposition Booth Agents filed zero complaints,” Bhandari said.
The BJP leader said the Supreme Court has declared SIR “necessary” for free and fair elections.
“Street anarchy cannot hijack democracy!” he added.
From its official X handle, the BJP rejected as a “lie” claims that the Chief Justice of India (CJI) was removed from the panel that selects the Chief Election Commissioner.
“Truth: Before 2023, there was no law for the appointment of the CEC. The President (of India) made appointments based on the government’s recommendation,” the party said.
“Following the Supreme Court’s directive, the CJI was included in the interim arrangement. Thereafter, Parliament enacted a law. Now, the appointment is made by a committee comprising the Prime Minister, one minister nominated by them, and the Leader of the Opposition,” it said.
“In other words, today’s arrangement is more representative than before and is based on a clear statutory process,” it added.
The BJP said that spreading lies is easy but facts are “even more powerful”.
“Don’t fall for misinformation — trust the facts and share only after fully understanding the information,” the party said on X, posting a video showing a “point-by-point breakdown of the claims and the facts behind the SIR”.
