Uri: The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Uri has ordered the temporary closure of the Uri National Highway on October 4 and October 11 to facilitate hill-cutting work, officials said on Saturday.

According to an official order, the decision was taken following a request from the Officer Commanding, 53 RCC (GREF), seeking temporary closure of the highway for execution of the work.

The administration has advised commuters and transport operators to use the alternative Bandi–Paranpillan–Dachi route during the period of closure.

The order further stated that hill-cutting work will not be carried out on government working days between 9:00 am and 10:30 am and from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm. The executing agency has been directed to keep the road open for vehicular movement during these hours and ensure all necessary safety measures for commuters.

Officials said the temporary closure is aimed at facilitating the work while ensuring public safety.
