Srinagar: Police and security forces on Saturday conducted a high-intensity anti-grenade lobbing mock drill at Kralgund Market in Handwara to assess and strengthen operational preparedness and inter-agency coordination in responding to emergencies in populated areas.
The exercise was carried out jointly by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Handwara Police, 32 Rashtriya Rifles, 47 Assam Division of the Army and 92 Battalion of the CRPF. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Handwara supervised the drill.
The mock exercise simulated a grenade attack in a crowded marketplace and was aimed at testing response time, communication systems, deployment procedures, resource mobilisation and overall operational effectiveness of the participating agencies.
During the drill, security personnel secured the area, enforced route denial measures, established a cordon, launched coordinated search operations, used aerial surveillance and simulated the apprehension of a fleeing suspect in accordance with standard operating procedures.
The exercise also evaluated the functioning of the Joint Police Control Room in receiving information, mobilising resources and maintaining real-time coordination among field units and responding agencies.
Police said the successful conduct of the drill highlighted the preparedness of security forces and their ability to respond effectively to security contingencies, particularly grenade-lobbing incidents in crowded areas.
