Jammu: J&K Bank on Thursday marked its 88th foundation day, reaffirming its commitment to supporting economic development in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh while sustaining the institution’s long-term growth.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Amitava Chatterjee chaired a commemorative event at the bank’s Regional Business Centre in Jammu. Executive Director Sudhir Gupta, senior executives and divisional heads attended the programme, while officials from the corporate headquarters joined through video conferencing.
The function began with tributes to Maharaja Hari Singh, who founded the bank in 1938 to promote financial empowerment and economic development in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing the gathering, Chatterjee said the bank’s responsibility was both to provide financial services and support regional economic development, while ensuring sustainable growth of the institution.
He said the bank continued to play a key role in financing development initiatives in the region. According to the bank, it has sanctioned loans worth ₹1,902 crore to nearly 40,000 entrepreneurs under Mission YUVA, the Jammu and Kashmir government’s employment generation programme.
To highlight the initiative, the bank announced the launch of “YUVA UDAAN”, a video series featuring entrepreneurs supported under the scheme.
The bank also highlighted its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, stating that it spent more than ₹46 crore during the 2025-26 financial year on programmes related to education, healthcare, environment and other social sectors.
Chatterjee also paid tribute to former leaders and employees of the institution, crediting them for helping build the bank over the past 88 years.
Founded in 1938, J&K Bank remains one of the largest financial institutions in the region and continues to play a significant role in banking and development activities across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
