Srinagar: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Information Technology, Youth Services and Sports, and Science and Technology, Satish Sharma, on Thursday extended greetings to the people of Jammu and Kashmir on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti.
In his message, Sharma paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 157th birth anniversary and recalled his contribution to India’s freedom struggle and the enduring relevance of his ideals of truth, non-violence, self-reliance, cleanliness and social welfare.
The minister said Gandhi’s life and philosophy continue to inspire generations and remain relevant in addressing contemporary social challenges. He called upon people, particularly the youth, to draw inspiration from Gandhi’s teachings and reflect them in their daily lives.
Sharma stressed the importance of cleanliness, social responsibility, compassion and respect for fellow citizens, urging people to contribute towards cleaner and healthier communities. He also highlighted the need to promote self-reliance and support local enterprises and products in line with Gandhi’s vision of Swadeshi.
He appealed to citizens to observe Gandhi Jayanti as an occasion to reaffirm their commitment to the values of truth, non-violence, social harmony and public service, and expressed hope that the day would inspire efforts towards unity, cleanliness and inclusive development across Jammu and Kashmir.
