Srinagar: Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Thursday released a book on the life and legacy of Swami Lakshmanjoo, the noted 20th-century exponent of Kashmir Shaivism, during a visit to the historic Ishwar Ashram at Ishber, Nishat.
The book chronicles the life, teachings and contributions of Swami Lakshmanjoo (1907–1991), who is widely regarded as one of the foremost modern scholars of Kashmir Shaivism.
Speaking on the occasion, Dulloo said the teachings and contributions of spiritual scholars such as Swami Lakshmanjoo form an important part of Jammu and Kashmir’s intellectual and cultural heritage and should be documented for future generations.
He appreciated the efforts behind the publication, saying such works help preserve the lives and contributions of personalities who have enriched the region’s philosophical and cultural traditions.
During the visit, the Chief Secretary toured the Ashram and was briefed about its historical significance and ongoing efforts to preserve and promote the teachings of Swami Lakshmanjoo.
The event was attended by Shanna Hughes and Dr Anusheel Munshi, disciples of the spiritual master, among others.
Dulloo also stressed the importance of preserving and documenting Jammu and Kashmir’s diverse cultural, literary and philosophical heritage for posterity.
