Anantnag: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anantnag, Amod Ashok Nagpure, chaired an operations and crime review meeting at the District Police Office (DPO) Anantnag to assess the overall security situation and crime-related activities across the district.
The meeting was attended by senior and supervisory police officers. The SSP reviewed the prevailing law and order situation, crime trends, progress in important investigations, pending cases and operational preparedness. He directed officers to strengthen preventive measures, ensure timely disposal of investigations, intensify action against criminal and anti-social elements, and maintain close coordination among all units for effective policing.
Nagpure also stressed the need for heightened vigilance, enhanced field-level supervision and prompt response to emerging security and crime-related challenges.
Meanwhile, Anantnag Police said it has intensified its anti-narcotics campaign during the first nine months of 2026, registering 408 cases under the NDPS Act and arresting 476 alleged drug peddlers.
According to police, more than 542 kilograms of contraband and ₹27.53 lakh in cash were seized during the period. Properties worth around ₹60 crore were attached in 35 cases, while 20 properties valued at nearly ₹20 crore and allegedly linked to narcotics proceeds were demolished.
Police said 2,000 kilograms of narcotic substances were destroyed following legal procedures, while illegal narcotic cultivation spread over 305 marlas of land was eradicated. Authorities also retrieved more than 271 marlas of government land allegedly encroached upon by drug peddlers.
The crackdown also led to the arrest of several female drug peddlers and 13 female cultivators. Police said eight government employees were found involved in drug-related cases and legal action was initiated against them.
In addition, 16 alleged drug peddlers were detained under the PIT NDPS Act, while 28 driving licences and 22 vehicle registration certificates were cancelled in connection with narcotics offences.
To curb drug trafficking, police conducted 295 Narco-CASOs across the district and jointly inspected 220 medical shops with other departments, detecting 19 violations and initiating legal action. Police also trained 213 investigating officers handling NDPS cases on legal procedures and evidence management.
