Baramulla: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla chaired two crime review meetings to assess the progress of investigations, case pendency and compliance with legal procedures across the sub-division, officials said on Thursday.
The meetings were held at District Police Lines (DPL) Baramulla on September 29 and at Police Post Delina on September 30. They were attended by the DySP Headquarters, Station House Officers (SHOs), in-charges of police posts and investigating officers.
According to officials, the SSP conducted a case-wise review of ongoing investigations, focusing on pending evidence collection, investigation timelines, procedural bottlenecks and long-pending cases. Officers were directed to address deficiencies and complete pending investigative work within specified timelines.
The review also focused on compliance with provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other relevant laws. Officers were asked to closely monitor legal deadlines and ensure timely completion of investigations to avoid procedural lapses, including cases that could result in default bail.
The SSP also directed expedited disposal of long-pending investigations and inquest proceedings, while supervisory officers were asked to address legal, forensic and procedural hurdles affecting investigations.
Weekly and monthly disposal targets were reviewed, and officers were instructed to submit regular progress reports detailing case disposals, pendency and corrective measures taken.
Emphasising the importance of professional and timely investigations, the SSP said fair, thorough and legally compliant investigations are essential for effective criminal justice delivery and public confidence in policing. Officials were directed to prioritise investigation quality, timely case disposal and adherence to legal procedures.
