SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly will hold a detailed discussion on the shortage of essential construction materials across the Union Territory during its next session, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather said on Wednesday.
The announcement came after several legislators raised concerns during the concluding proceedings of the Autumn Session over the non-availability of construction materials and its impact on development works and construction activities in different parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Rather said members had sought an opportunity to deliberate on the issue and its implications. Acknowledging the seriousness of the matter, he assured the House that it would be taken up for a detailed discussion in the next session.
The Speaker said the discussion would allow legislators to examine the challenges arising from the shortage and suggest measures to address them.
He also observed that the government could, in the meantime, take necessary corrective steps to improve the availability of essential construction materials across the Union Territory.
During the proceedings, legislators Javid Hassan Baig, Saifuddin Bhat, Ajaz Ahmad Jan, Hilal Akbar Lone and Rajeev Jasrotia highlighted shortages of construction materials in their respective constituencies and urged the government to address the issue.
