SRINAGAR: Authorities in south Kashmir’s Kokernag have advised the public not to visit the sinkhole site at Gohihard village, citing safety concerns and the need to facilitate remedial work by government agencies.
In a public advisory issued by the Tehsildar, Kokernag, the administration said a sinkhole had formed in Gohihard on September 27 and urged people to avoid gathering in and around the affected area until it is declared safe.
The advisory said the restriction was necessary to ensure public safety and to allow concerned departments to carry out their work without obstruction caused by crowds.
Officials advised residents and visitors to refrain from visiting the site until remedial measures are completed and the area is assessed as safe.
Meanwhile, local residents claimed that another sinkhole had appeared in the Brengi Nallah at Gohihard, close to the location of the earlier incident. According to locals, the new sinkhole has developed slightly downstream from the original site.
There was no immediate official confirmation regarding the reported second sinkhole. Authorities are monitoring the situation and assessing the affected area, officials said.
