SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday informed the Legislative Assembly that 33 water supply schemes are currently operational in Trehgam constituency, serving 39 villages, while 15 drinking water projects are being implemented under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) at an estimated cost of ₹97.71 crore.
Replying to a Calling Attention Motion moved by MLA Mir Saifullah, Jal Shakti Minister Javed Ahmed Rana said 26 of the 39 villages in the constituency have adequate drinking water facilities, while shortages have been reported in 13 villages.
He said the affected areas are presently being supplied drinking water through tankers as per requirement.
The minister informed the House that new water supply schemes for most shortage-hit areas are under execution under the JJM and other programmes.
Of the 15 JJM schemes taken up in the constituency, three have been completed while 12 remain under execution. The ongoing projects have achieved more than 85 per cent physical progress, he said.
According to Rana, ₹58.88 crore has so far been spent on the schemes against the total estimated cost of ₹97.71 crore.
He further said that three additional schemes have been taken up under NABARD and the Union Territory Capex programme. Two of these—Water Supply Scheme (WSS) Gushi and WSS Laderwan—are in the final stages of completion and are expected to be commissioned shortly.
The minister said proposals for covering left-out habitations and augmenting existing infrastructure have also been included under various programmes, including UT Capex, District Capex, SASCI, VVP and DA-JUGA, to achieve full household coverage.
Rana assured the House that the department is monitoring the situation and taking necessary steps to ensure adequate and uninterrupted drinking water supply in the constituency.
