Srinagar: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Dr G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy, on Tuesday chaired a crime and security review meeting to assess the law and order situation, operational preparedness and progress in the investigation of criminal cases across the district.
The meeting, held at the Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir, was attended by zonal Superintendents of Police, SP Headquarters, DySP Headquarters, Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs), Station House Officers (SHOs) and other senior police officers.
According to police, the meeting reviewed the overall crime scenario in Srinagar, with particular focus on cases registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and other social offences.
Officials said detailed discussions were held on improving the quality of investigations and prosecution in criminal cases, including those related to the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and crimes against women, with an emphasis on improving conviction rates.
The SSP also reviewed the performance of various police zones, sub-divisions and police stations, and directed officers to expedite the disposal of pending cases and ensure effective implementation of provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
During the meeting, Chakravarthy directed intensified action against drug trafficking and asked officers to identify and dismantle drug hotspots. He also instructed field units to investigate financial aspects of narcotics and alleged terror-funding cases, including tracing proceeds of crime and initiating action for freezing bank accounts and attachment of properties where warranted under law.
The security review included an assessment of deployment and operational readiness across Srinagar. The SSP directed police units to strengthen counter-insurgency measures, intensify area domination exercises and enhance checking at vulnerable locations and inter-district entry points.
He also stressed the need for continuous vigilance and coordination among field formations to maintain law and order and ensure public safety in the city, police said.
