SRINAGAR: Several Apni Party leaders, including Provincial President Mohammad Ashraf Mir and Srinagar District President Zaffar Habib Dar, were detained by police on Monday during a protest outside the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on the opening day of its autumn session.
Led by Mir, party leaders and workers staged a demonstration outside the Assembly premises, raising issues related to the reservation policy, unemployment and other public concerns. Police intervened and detained several protesters, according to the party.
Before his detention, Mir criticised the existing reservation policy, alleging that it was unfair and demanding a more transparent and equitable framework. He also questioned the delay in making public the report of the Cabinet Sub-Committee on reservations and called for its disclosure.
Mir further accused the government of failing to address pressing public issues, particularly unemployment. He claimed that several promises made during the election campaign, including the provision of one lakh jobs, free electricity, gas cylinders and additional ration quotas, had not been fulfilled.
