Inter-district Kho-Kho championship begins in Sopore

More than 700 athletes from 10 Kashmir districts participating in three-week event

BARAMULLA: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) on Sunday began its three-week Inter-District Provincial-Level Kho-Kho Championship for boys and girls of various age groups at Higher Secondary School (HSS) Doabgah in Sopore.

More than 700 athletes from 10 districts of Kashmir division are participating in the competition, which is being organised by the Joint Director, Youth Services and Sports, Kashmir, with Baramulla district hosting the event.

The opening phase of the championship featured the Under-17 girls’ category, with around 120 players representing all 10 districts.

District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Baramulla, Mushtaq Ahmad Pampori, inaugurated the competition in the presence of the Vice Principal of HSS Doabgah, sports officials, coaches, team managers and players.

In the opening matches, Baramulla defeated Anantnag by one inning and eight points, while Bandipora registered a win over Kulgam by one inning and one point.

Officials said the Under-17 girls’ competition will continue for three days, after which contests in other age categories will be held over the coming weeks.

The championship is being conducted under the supervision of Director General, Youth Services and Sports, Anuradha Gupta.
