SRINAGAR: Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and BJP leader Sunil Sharma on Saturday held meetings with various delegations in Srinagar as part of the party’s public outreach programme, with representatives raising issues related to civic amenities, employment and public services.
According to a BJP statement, delegations representing trade bodies, transporters, professionals, civil society groups, students and other sections of society met Sharma and highlighted concerns affecting their respective sectors.
Sharma said issues raised by the delegations would be taken up with the concerned authorities and, where necessary, during the upcoming Assembly session.
He said people had flagged problems related to electricity infrastructure, staff shortages in schools, availability of doctors in hospitals, road conditions, employment and civic amenities.
The BJP leader also criticised the National Conference-led government, alleging that it had frequently cited limitations of authority while responding to public issues over the past two years. He claimed this had led to public dissatisfaction.
Sharma further raised concerns regarding daily wagers, Gram Rozgar Sevaks (GRSs), technical assistants, Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), Anganwadi workers and National Health Mission (NHM) employees, saying their demands related to job security, remuneration and regularisation required attention.
He also referred to complaints regarding corruption, delays in Panchayat elections, power tariffs and employment opportunities for youth.
According to the statement, Sharma assured the delegations that their concerns would be raised through appropriate forums, including the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and, where required, with the Central Government.
Several BJP leaders, including party secretary Arif Raja and other office-bearers, were present during the interactions.
