Srinagar: The National Health Mission (NHM) employees in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday suspended their strike for a month after a written assurance from the government to resolve their issues within that time period, officials said.

They said the coordination committee of the NHM employees held discussions with Health Minister Sakina Itoo, after which the decision to suspend the strike for a month was taken.

The minister assured gave a written assurance to the employees that their genuine demands would be taken up for consideration and appropriate action would be taken at the earliest, the officials said.

The representatives of the employees said they have given a time of one month to the government and have deferred their strike for the time period.

The NHM employees were pressing for resolution of their long-pending demands including salary revision, policy for retired employees, and social security benefits.

The representatives of the employees expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Itoo for accepting that their demands were genuine, and for giving written assurance.
