SRINAGAR: Police on Thursday said nine alleged drug peddlers were arrested in separate anti-narcotics operations across Anantnag, Sopore, Shopian, Pulwama and Kulgam districts, while various contraband substances were recovered from their possession.
According to police, two persons were arrested during a naka checking operation at Dugga Petrol Pump, Naibasti Khanabal in Anantnag. Police said 10.31 grams of charas was recovered from their possession. The accused were identified as Adil Ahmad Shah of Naibasti and Adil Ahmad Wani of Krangsoo, Mattan.
In Sopore, police intercepted a suspect during checking at Malgonipora and recovered a contraband substance from his possession. He was identified as Zakir Rashid Lone of Wadoora, Sopore.
In Shopian, police arrested a man during checking at Audoora Rampathri and allegedly recovered 2.472 kilograms of a cannabis-like substance from a nylon bag in his possession. The accused was identified as Ab Ahad Mochi of Audoora Rampathri.
Meanwhile, police in Anantnag arrested an absconder wanted in an NDPS case registered in Udhampur. The accused, Abdul Rashid Sood of Garnia, Udhampur, was apprehended by a police team from Police Station Dooru. He was wanted in connection with FIR No. 38/2024 under the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Rambhal, Udhampur. Police said a warrant under Section 299 CrPC had been issued against him by a Udhampur court in 2025.
In Pulwama, police arrested three persons during naka checking at the old bus stand and recovered 286 grams of charas powder and 101.5 grams of a charas-like substance from their possession. The accused were identified as Abrar Ahmad Yatoo of Sunchakoo, Owais Ahmad Baba of Gulshanabad Rajpora and Mudasir Ahmad Dar of Gulshanabad Rajpora.
In another operation, police at Newa arrested a man identified as Arshid Ahmad Ganaie of Chandgam, Pulwama, and allegedly recovered 22 grams of charas from his possession. The vehicle he was driving was also seized.
In Kulgam, police arrested a suspect during naka checking at Amnoo and recovered 1.450 kilograms of a ganja-like substance along with ₹3,000 in cash, suspected to be proceeds of narcotics. The accused was identified as Ashfaq Ahmad Wani of Mirhama, Kulgam.
Police said cases under relevant provisions of law have been registered at the respective police stations and investigations are underway to ascertain the source of the contraband and identify forward and backward linkages.
