New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was showered with praise by his cabinet colleagues on Wednesday for the successful hosting of the BRICS Summit, which was attended by top world leaders including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The entire cabinet also applauded the prime minister for the meeting between Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and UAE leader Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, the first meeting between two warring sides in the ongoing West Asia conflict.

Sources aware of the matter told PTI that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh read out a resolution hailing the leadership of Prime Minister Modi for the “successful” summit, and it was adopted with applause by all cabinet ministers.

Singh also said that it was due to the effective leadership of PM Modi that top world leaders came to New Delhi to attend the BRICS Summit.

Modi expressed gratitude to his cabinet colleagues for their gesture, the sources said.

Singh also pointed out that the event was smoothly held and all world leaders praised the leadership of the prime minister.

The meeting between two top leaders of Iran and the UAE was held for the first time since the US and Israel attacked Iran and Tehran retaliated by targeting Gulf countries, including the UAE.

India hosted the BRICS Summit from September 12 to 13. It was attended by leaders of 11 member countries and 10 partner countries, besides prominent international organisations.

President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr, and Vice President Jessica Alupo of Uganda were among those who attended the summit.

During the summit, Modi held 15 sit-down bilateral meetings with heads of state or heads of government on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit.
