SRINAGAR: Police have cracked a case of theft of ₹3.30 lakh in cash from a house in Bazipora Ajas in Bandipora, a police spokesperson informed Tuesday.
He said acting on a written complaint from Ghulam Nabi Mir of Ajas Bazipora, stating that on September 13, 2026, some unknown persons had entered his house and stolen cash amounting to ₹3,30,000, police after registering an FIR, initiated investigations.
On the basis of technical evidence and CCTV footage, police questioned several suspects and finally zeroed in on one Tawfeeq Ahmad Kalwathoo, a resident of Bakshibal, Hajin.
He was apprehended and during questioning, the accused allegedly disclosed his involvement in the theft and revealed that he had spent ₹20,000 of the stolen amount on purchasing a motorcycle and ₹16,000 on a mobile phone, while the remaining cash had been kept in his room.
Based on the disclosure, police searched the premises and recovered the remaining stolen cash from the accused’s room. Police said they also took into possession the motorcycle and mobile phone purchased with the stolen proceeds as part of the investigation.
